Studio
March 5, 2008
I have finally rented a studio near my place. No excuses for not working. As soon as I get my sewing machine in there, I will be sew crazy.
I started playing around with onion bags and I have been getting neat shapes. Playing a lot of Endless Ocean on the Wii and having dreams of undersea diving. More fish and possibly invertebrates on the horizon. The camera has broken down but I’ll find another soon.

Fish

I have been making small fish dolls these days. I use recycled Japanese fabrics and scraps from my sewing basket. I love the shapes of fish and vegetables of Japanese applique artist Ayako Miyawaki. They are so expressive!

I have just arrived back from Japan with a load of kimono fresh from Tenjin-san fleamarket in Kyoto. Some of the kimono I hope to cut up one day have already entered my wardrobe for an indefinite period. I had a big show and tell with Serene last night and we oohed and ahhed over our second Christmas as we reviewed my purchases. Serene looks great in her subdued blue and purple plaid Taisho kimono with long-ish trailing sleeves. We must plan a tabi making session and kimono outing pretty soon.
